Privacy Policy

Effective 18 June 2026

DebitWatch is a South African debit-order watchdog, made by Quantyx, that helps you catch suspicious recurring debits and track the SARB dispute window. It runs entirely on your phone. We designed it to collect as little as possible, which in practice means we collect nothing about you at all.

The short version

There is no bank login and no account. There is no network layer and there are no Quantyx servers. The bank-statement CSV you import, and any debits you enter by hand, are parsed and stored only on your device. We have no analytics, no advertising and no trackers. Nothing is uploaded — DebitWatch cannot move your money, because it never touches your account in the first place.

Your financial data stays on your device

When you import a bank statement as a CSV or add debits manually, DebitWatch detects the columns, finds the recurring patterns and builds your watchlist — all on your phone, in a local database (Room). Your debit orders, amounts, merchants, risk scores and dispute-window countdowns are held only on the device and are never transmitted off it.

No network, no bank connection

The Android build has no network layer and no internet permission in practice for sending your data: there is no bank login, no account, no sync and no backend. DebitWatch never connects to your bank, never reads your account, and cannot move money. You import your own data and you act through your bank's official channels yourself.

What we do not do

We do not run a backend, so your statements are never uploaded to us. We do not collect analytics or usage statistics. We do not use advertising or marketing trackers. We do not embed advertising SDKs. We do not sell, rent or share data, because we never receive any.

Device permissions

The Android build requests a notifications permission so it can show local reminders about upcoming debits and the dispute window. These reminders are scheduled on your device — there is no push server, and no information leaves the phone for them. You can review or revoke the permission at any time in the Android Settings app.

Not a bank, not affiliated with the SARB

DebitWatch is a personal vigilance tool, not a banking app, and it is not affiliated with any bank or with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). Any dispute or cancellation is something you send yourself, through your bank's official channels.

Children

DebitWatch is a personal-finance tool intended for adult account holders, not directed at children, and it does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because there is no account and no data leaves the device, the app does not gather information about users of any age.

Deleting your data

You are always in control. Inside the app, Settings has Data management options to clear all data, and you can also clear the app's storage in Android Settings or delete the app entirely. There is no server-side copy to request the deletion of, because none ever existed.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Because this build collects nothing, any change will be to clarify wording rather than to expand data collection.
